ATCAA Announces New Executive Director
The Amador Tuolumne Community Action Agency has a new leader with a familiar face. Joe Bors has been named the new Executive Director for the agency. He will replace Rajeev Rambob who announced his departure in late 2018. Rambob was hired in 2016 to replace Shelly Hance who retired after 35 years of service.
“The Board has spent the past six months in a careful search for a new Executive Director,” stated Lloyd Schneider, ATCAA Board Chairman. “We advertised widely and received numerous applications.” The board met several times to interview finalists and ultimately, Mr. Bors emerged as the most logical choice.
Joe had served as ATCAA’s Director of Energy and Water Conservation Programs, a post he held for nearly four years. As department Director, he won more than $1.6M in water conservation grants and implemented significant internal programs to improve training and career path/wage earning opportunities within his department.
Joe came to ATCAA in early 2015 as a volunteer to develop and implement a free summer lunch program for students in Tuolumne County. This opportunity came just after retiring from Boeing Satellite Systems as an executive level program manager in the field of space-based telecommunications systems and ground system development. Through the course of his 35 plus year career, he managed $250M program budgets including spacecraft attitude and control, mission system design and Ku Band communication systems for the Space Shuttle program.
A native Northern Californian, Joe and his wife Victoria, a local writer and broadcaster, live in Angels Camp with their canine son Bodhi, a rescue from the Jamestown animal shelter. They feel blessed and fortunate to live in the Mother Lode and for Joe to continue helping ATCAA fulfill its service mission to those in need throughout the region.
“We look for Mr. Bors to amplify our forty-year history of significant positive impacts in our region and to continue the work and visions of his predecessors,” says Schneider. “Mr. Rambob kept many of our programs viable during difficult times and one of his greatest impacts was in the area of important new resources for the homeless of the Mother Lode.
Part of the agency’s vision is for residents to be self‒reliant, healthy and free from economic hardship. Its overall annual budget is over 10 million and it employs over 150 local residents to provide services.
ATCAA was formed in 1981 as a public non-profit entity through a joint powers agreement between Tuolumne and Amador counties. It is one of over one-thousand Community Action Agencies throughout the United States. Its programs are designed to help those who are most vulnerable in the community. Services include Early/Head Start, Food Bank, Energy and Water Conservation, Emergency Shelter, Homeless and Housing Support, Income Tax Assistance, Family Learning, Financial Education, Literacy and GED Education, Lifeline Senior Support, Foster Youth Support and Friday Night Live teen programs. Also supported are Suicide Prevention, Child/Drug Abuse Prevention and Mental Health First Aid training offered through the Yes Partnership. ATCAA runs two service centers.
