California Earned Income Tax Credit CalEITC

If you earned $24,950 or less in wages or self-employment income, you could be eligible for
California's new and expanded tax credit. If you didn't make enough to be required to file,
you can still file ANY TIME OF YEAR to claim your refund.

What is it? The cash-back California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) is designed to put money in the pockets of low-income working people. You can use the money for anything…clothing, food, school supplies, electric bills, etc.

How do I claim the credit? Just file your California tax return. You can file free yourself online or we can help if it is during tax season. YOU CAN FILE AND CLAIM YOUR CREDIT ANY TIME OF YEAR!

I didn't know about the credit and didn't file last year. Can I still get last year's credit? If you already filed this year or think you may qualify for CalEITC in previous years, you can file an amended return up to three years back.

FILE FREE
January 29 - April 15, 2020.

During tax season, call us to make an appointment or arrange to drop off.

Our IRS certified VITA volunteers can prepare and file your taxes free during tax season if your household earned $54,000 or less and you have a simple return.

There are also many ways to file FREE online.

After Tax Season?

File and get your credit any time of year!

I just learned about the credit. It looks like I can get cash-back, but it is now after tax season. How can I claim it?  You can file free online any time of year and claim your credit. Both the IRS and FTB have free online filing systems. Both are fast, easy, secure and free.

There are also a few post-season and year-around free tax prep sites in the Sacramento and Bay Area regions. Call 800-500-4931 to learn more or find locations at: https://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep/

ATCAA is proud to be a partner of the CalEITC outreach team.  Every year, millions of dollars are left on the table because residents didn't know about the credit, or didn't know how to access the credit. Last year, almost $400,000 in  EITC and CalEITC dollars came back into our communities to those who need it most. This credit is proven to lift Californians out of poverty and strengthen our local emconomy.

If you would like to help us spread the word about this important credit, please call 209-283-4130 or email kmoore@atcaa.org.
